Teaching lessons can sometimes be overwhelming and even sometimes difficult, but when one thinks ahead and plans everything out instructing and actually teaching the correct material can be easier. Being organized before you try and teach a lesson to a group of students is the best way to ensure that the lesson will be as successful as possible. One of the best ways to start planning a lesson is to identify what Common Core or NCSCOS the lesson will meet. My lesson meets the competency goal two. This goal states that “the learner will trace the causes and effects of the Revolutionary War, and assess the impact of major events, problems, and personalities during the Constitutional Period in North Carolina and the new nation.” More specifically my lesson will be based on the objective 2.01 and this states that students will be able to “trace the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and evaluate their relative significance in the onset of hostilities.” Now that my goal is set I can now also identify the student learning outcome. For this lesson my outcome is that students will choose one of the significant events leading up to the revolutionary war and after using bubbleus and making a bubble map of all of the events students will create a talking head telling how the event happened. It is important for students to grasp this information about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War because it meets one of the standard course objectives. The lesson plan will teach the students the information that will be needed for the EOG, but in a creative, fun way. Hopefully by asking the students to be creative with a bubble map (using bubbl.us) and talking head the students will retain more of the information than if they just copied notes. In order to fully understand this lesson students must have passed grades K-6th and be able to use the internet to create a bubble map. The website bubble.us is easy to use and not difficult to maneuver. By using bubble.us, a presentation, and asking the students to create their own talking head I am making sure that my lesson is aligned with the 21st Century Framework. I will need a slide show of notes, computers, a printer, and construction paper to complete the lesson. Once all this is planned I have the framework of my lesson complete and now I can begin thinking in more detail. Having a framework for every lesson is extremely important because without a plan it will be difficult to ensure that the students are truly learning what they need to learn.
